Testing The New Toy
Posted on Thursday, October 07 @ 22:38:56 MST by Bob

DFC Racing The day we've all been waiting for has finally come. And what a beautiful day it was. A HUGE thanks goes out to Bob and Judy from Lakeville Speedway for making their track available to us after we got the shaft from WCS. Without their patience and understanding, we would have had to wait until next season to get any testing in. That would have sucked! Anyway, our test pilots for today were Bill Franks, Randy Pollock, and myself. We were mainly interested in getting a feel for the car and making sure everything was gonna stay together. Well that, and size up our own skills a bit. Once it was clear that the car was just fine, it was time to work it a bit harder to see what kind of lap times we could pull off. Knowing that the track hadn't been groomed since the Blowout weekend due to some broken equipment, I wasn't so sure that was a good idea, but hell we just had to try. I think we surprised ourselves a bit when we all ended up turning some pretty stout laps by the time we were done. I really don't think any of us really worked the car to the limit either but we were as close as the track would allow considering we needed to bring the car home in one piece. The only truly scary moment was when Bill tried to join the "over the hill gang" in turns 3 & 4. He was lucky enough to hang the car up on the edge though and all was well after we got a friendly shove from the tractor. That didn't keep Bill from going right back at it, with some of his best laps the next time out. Bill has come a long way since his test days in Ol' #9. All in all, it was a great day. Not only did we get some track time with the new toy, but we brought the car home without a scratch. To top it off though, it was probably the most fun we've had at the track in a very long time. I think we all needed that! The sad part is that now the season is officially over. We need to get the car ready for winter and then it's time to sit on our asses waiting for the fun to begin in the spring. You may have noticed the new number on the car but that's only temporary. It will carry the number 91 next season. We're currently trying to line up our sponsors for next season too so we can get the rest of the lettering in order. If you're interested, please contact me anytime. It's a bummer to think about the season ending and all but we've had some fun. Ol' #9 may not have seen a whole season but it did have some pretty strong runs. It was great to see some folks like Rory Reed, Paul Holmes, Dave McMillen, Denny Shear, and Vern Siegrist, all have some great nights too. It was awesome to see Paul damn near pull off the win at the Blowout this year. Seeing Rory finally chase down that championship this season was worth the wait too, no matter what he might tell ya. ;-) Rory also pulled off a feature win on Friday night at the Little Guy Nationals! Now I could probably throw in a good (little) joke there but I won't, for obvious reasons. I sure hate to see the winter coming but the sooner it's over, the sooner we can get back out to the track. I sure hope to hear from you folks during the off season and I'll try to keep you up to date on things from this end. If you or your team would like to spread the word of any developments over the winter just let me know. I'll be happy to post them for you. It's been one hell of a year and we're hoping next season is even better!!! Stay tuned for more fun and excitement.
