Lakeville Kicks Off '06 In Style
Posted on Saturday, April 29 @ 00:18:29 MST by Bob

DFC Racing Lakeville started the season tonight with Fan Appreciation Night, and the fans were treated to quite a show. Before the racing began, Wes Morrison Jr. made a few laps with "Ol Glory as a tribute to his father who passed away this winter, as well as Orry Wirt, who lost his life today due to injuries he suffered in a car crash on April 2nd. Having a son myself, the same age as Orry, I can't even imagine what the Wirt family must be going through right now. Our prayers are certainly with them. Once the racing got rolling the action was hot all night. Fans were treated to 4-wide racing quite a few times. Yes, you read that right, 4-wide at Lakeville. What a sight to see! "One groove" my ass! During the night I made time to catch up with a few people I've been wanting to track down, and even hung out with the Thomas Baker crew much of the night. Those folks are just fun to be around, and Thomas had a pretty solid night. He lead both his heat race and the feature, but came up just a bit short both times. He got "beat up by a girl" in the heat race when he finshed 2nd to Kristen Flory. ;-) She made a point to rub it in too, before giving him some tips to make him stronger in the feature. Kristen was just starting to work him over in the feature when mechanical problems ended her night early. From there, he had to battle Charlie Duncan and put up one hell of a fight to finish 3rd when Hans Gross slipped by them both for the win. I ran into even more people nagging me about more updates on this site so I guess I better try to keep up. I also got some very encouraging news from Chuck Griffith tonight. Once it's official, I'll be happy to post it here. All in all, it was a pretty damn nice kickoff to the '06 season. Once again Lakeville put on a great show and I still made it home at a decent time. Nice job folks! Tomorrow night I'm heading to WCS to see if they can match the show I saw tonight.
