I'll bet I'm not the only one that's more than ready to get my lungs filled with racing fumes and some good ol' clay dust. The season is about to get kicked off at all our area tracks, even the ones without clay dust. ;-) All I can say is it's about damn time. After another cold and ugly Ohio winter it's going to feel great to get back to the great racing action available in this area. In this economy there probably isn't a better bargain for your family fun needs than hitting a local track for some real entertainment, and our area tracks will be happy to have you each and every week. Some tracks will trying new things and others are improving on their existing programs. This should be a very interesting season. Hilltop is under yet another new management team, and Lakeville has shaken some things up to bring back the family atmosphere to one of my favorite stomping grounds. I wish them both the very best of luck in 2009.

If you're ready for your first taste of racing action this year I've listed some important dates below. Get out there and support your local tracks of choice and of course your favorite race teams!

PPMS (Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway) will be first in line with a test and tune day on March 28th from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Grandstand admission is FREE! The rain date for this event is March 29th. The regular season kicks off on April 4th. If you want to see some FAST action on dirt, this is THE place!!

Lakeville Speedway will be having an open test day for all types of race cars on April 10th from 5:30 until dark. Pit admission is $10 for test day. The racing season starts on April 17th and this should be one of the best chances for Lakeville to shine in years. Give 'em hell Randy and crew!

Midvale Speedway will actually have a few test days before their season begins. April 4th and 5th from 12:00 - 5:00 teams will hit the track for some pre-season testing. On April 10 from 3:00 - 8:00 they'll get one last chance for practice before the season begins on April 11th. Pit admission for test days is $10.

Deerfield Raceway will hold a practice day on April 4th from 12:00 - 6:00. The cost is $10 for a pit pass and Grandstand admission is free. April 11th is opening night. Deerfield is a 1/4 mile dirt track that puts the fun back into grass roots dirt racing. They will also feature a new E-Mod division this season with the focus strongly on the "E" (as in Economy) like it was meant to be. Check this place out on Saturday nights this summer!

WCS will have a test day with a new twist on April 12th. Gates will open at 4:00 PM and the cost is only $50 per car. This means you can bring your crew, fans, family, and sponsors with you and they get in for FREE! Now, that's not the twist but it's the way all tracks should consider pricing any test days in my opinion! The twist is that the fastest car in each division for the night will receive $50. How cool is that?! April 18th will mark the start of the first full season in a while at WCS. Let's hope for a great one!

250 Speedway is hoping to continue it's growth in 2009 and will have a practice day on April 18th. Their regular season will begin on April 24th and will fill most Friday nights with grass roots type racing action. Racing action begins at 8:00. Pit passes are $25 and general admission is just $10 for regular shows!

The latest new management team at Hilltop will get together for an open practice on April 19th at 2:00 PM. Gates will swing open at 1:00 PM. Grandstand admission is free and pit admission is $10. Concessions will be open. The regular season of kickass racing action will begin on April 24th. Gates will open at 4:00, grandstands open at 5:00, hot laps begin at 6:00, and qualifying starts at 7:00. Racing is scheduled to start at 8:00 sharp!
